Haji Anayat Ali Appreciates Roots Ladakh for Project “Zbayul”Inaugurates
In Jammu and Kahsmir, Kargil has a distinct Cultural Identity with 6 Ethinic Groups amongst its 1.8 Lakh Population and is the Unknown Ladakh to be explored by tourist.
This wa stated by Chairman J&K Legislative Council Haji Anayat Ali during a programme at Zbayul (the Hidden Village) Hinasku Kargil.
Haji Anayat Ali also inaugurated a cultural museum at the historic Lhonpo Khang (house) at thevillage.
He was also the cheif guest on the concluding function of 10 day-long design workshop conducted by Roots Ladakh, a for-profit social enterprise based in Kargil and Little Local, a responsible travel company based in Mumbai, India in collaboration with CEPT University Ahmedabad, as part of their Summer Winter School 2019.
Haji Anayat also congratulated the team of Roots Ladakh for their Project Zbayul and other projects like Hundarman Brok, Project Brown Bear which is helping in promoting Tourism in the District.
The workshop was attended by 35 students from across India who lived in Henasku village in home stays for a week and documented the life, history and culture of the place. The workshop also engaged local volunteers and support teams who helped the students through their research work. The workshop concluded with setting up of a community centric cultural museum in the historic Lhonpo Khang, a 500 year old structure situated in the heritage village.
Referring to the students and other team members Haji Anayat Ali told that they should act as an ambassador to showcase the rich historical background of Kargil, which is still a vergin place for explorers and tourist.
Haji Anayat Ali said that the museum is now a permanent cultural asset for the community, which will serve as a unique cultural experience for travellers and lead to additional livelihood for the community and urged upon the team to do such work in other historical places also so that the industry of tourism can be boosted for a healty living of the society.
He also lent a keen ear to the genuine demands of the community of Henasku including their long standing demand for macdemisation of the link road on which the Chairman assured speedy completion of the same.
On this occasion, Executive Councilor LAHDC Kargil Mohammad Ali Chandan was the guest of honour and Aga Syed Toha, Assistant Director, Department of Tourism Kargil and various other dignitaries, village heads and community of Henasku were also present.
This workshop was part of a long term, integrated community development initiative known as “Project Zbayul” by Roots Ladakh and Little Local under which the aim is to preserve the lesser known heritage of Ladakh and create alternate livelihood opportunities for grassroots communities through eco-tourism initiatives.
