Dewatering city
Governor’s administration in the past few days has been very busy to dewater Srinagar city and in this direction the authorities have been able to bring out many localities of Srinagar city from water logging. Divisional Commissioner directed the concerned to ensure additional de-watering pumps along with deployment of men and machinery at all the vital locations in the capital.
He stressed engineers and officers of line departments including SMC, UEED, R&B, I&FC and Traffic to carry out field inspections every hour across the capital and ensure that water is pumped out from the roads, streets and especially from schools, hospitals and electricity stations as soon as possible. In future, concerned departments were asked to ensure that all the identified areas are constantly manned and supervised by officials so that the moment water-logging occurs, the authorities can swing into action immediately.
Srinagar city has many localities still water-logged as they are low-lying areas of the city. Although the administration has stressed on its officers to report them hours about the dewatering efforts being done by them in these localities, the common people are still suffering due to the stagnant water being around them from the past two days. Srinagar city needs immediate attention of the governor’s administration so that it becomes a real smart city and the drainage system is set right without any further delay. Few hours of rains have resulted in water-logging in Lal Chowk, Regal Chowk, Poloview and other business centres.
The authorities immediately pressed into service all their men and machinery for the dewatering, but it needs a long term solution so that the business community in Srinagar is saved from the water logging in future.
