J&K: Former IAS officer Shah Faesal booked under PSA
Farooq Abdulla, Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti, Ali Mohammad Sagar, Sartaj Madani, Hilal Lone and Nayeem Akhtar have also been booked under PSA recently.
Former IAS officer and head of Jammu & Kashmir People’s Movement (JKPM) party Shah Faesal has been booked under Public Safety Act (PSA).
Shah Faesal has joined the list of leaders booked under the PSA in Jammu and Kashmir.
Farooq Abdulla, Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti, Ali Mohammad Sagar, Sartaj Madani, Hilal Lone and Nayeem Akhtar have also been booked under PSA recently.
Shah Faesal has been in preventive custody under Section 107 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) Since August 14 last year. He was detained and later shifted to the MLA hostel in Srinagar.
However, it is not clear if Faesal will be shifted to home or kept in the MLA hostel sub-jail.
The PSA is a 1978 Jammu and Kashmir law, often described as a draconian measure, that allows authorities to detain a person for up to two years without a trial.
On Friday, the Supreme Court on Friday sought response from the Jammu and Kashmir administration on a plea filed by Sara Abdullah Pilot challenging the detention of her brother and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah under the PSA.
Sara Abdullah Pilot on Friday said all Kashmiris should have the same rights as other citizens of the country.
Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for Pilot, told the apex court that it is a habeas corpus petition and Omar has been kept in detention since August 4 last year.
Habeas corpus is a writ seeking production of person, who has allegedly been in illegal detention, before a court.
