DDC Kupwara kick starts plantation drive

KUPWARA, MARCH 10: District Development Commissioner (DDC), Kupwara, Anshul Garg kick started plantation drive by planting saplings of Deodar, Conifer, Chinar and Mulberry in the premises of District Administrative Complex , here today.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Nazir Ahmad Lone and concerned district officers were present on the occasion.

The DDC was informed that 30,800 mulberry saplings are being planted in Kupwara, Karnah, Handwara, Langate and Lolab zones of the district by Sericulture department whileas, Social Forestry department is planting 5000 Deodar and Conifer saplings across the district. He was further informed that Floriculture department is planting 400 Chinar saplings in government schools and Panchayat ghars of the district.

Speaking on the occasion, the DDC said that Kupwara District has a vast land under forest cover and the District Administration is making efforts to make district greener through plantation.

He said Social Forestry, Sericulture, Floriculture, Forest and Rural Development departments have been assigned the task to cover the barren land across the district.

Later, the ADC briefed the media persons about the plantation drive and urged the locals to plant saplings in uncovered land for greater benefit of the district.
