Covid positive cases continued on upward trend in Kashmir on Monday after 14 persons tested positive for the virus, a development that caused the Union Territory’s infection tally to climb to 368 with five deaths.
4 booked for hiding travel history
- Rajouri: Four persons were booked at the Budhal police station in Rajouri district for hiding their travel history. All four were part of the seven-member team which left Shopian on foot on April 16 and after traversing through 2-3 feet snow via traditional Mughal route, reached Alal in Rajouri district
- Out of the seven, two were sent to institutional quarantine at Thanamandi while five, including one from Reasi district, left for Budhal without any intimation to the authorities. All six belong to Kangota village in Budhal. On Saturday, one staying in quarantine was declared Covid positive
- All four were later traced by the Budhal police on the way to Kangota village and brought to the GMC hospital in Rajouri for testing OC
No new case was reported from Srinagar district, which have several red zones, while Bandipora continues to be the infection hotspot as seven fresh cases are from the district.
“14 new cases reported. All from Kashmir. Total number of cases now 368. Jammu-55 and Kashmir-313,” (sic) government spokesperson Rohit Kansal tweeted.
Officials said seven positive cases were reported from Bandipora, five from Anatnang, and two from Kupwara district.
While surge of Covid cases continues in the Valley, the situation in Jammu province is, relatively, under control with only one positive case during the past six days. Three patients from Narsoo area of Udhampur were cured and discharged on Monday. In the Valley too, 15 positive cases recovered and were discharged from different hospitals during the past 24 hours.
With 18 patients discharged from hospitals on Monday, the total active positive cases in J&K are 292, while 71 patients have recovered so far and five have died due to infection.
As per the official reports, 61,774 persons have been put under observation. As many as 6,463 are under home quarantine, 229 in hospital quarantine and 292 in hospital isolation, 20,115 people are under home surveillance and 34,670 have completed surveillance.
According to data, 8,612 tests were done of which 8,622 tested negative and 368 positive.
The government has put a ban on public movement in and out of red zones. It has banned inter-district movement and religious and social gatherings.
