Militancy in Southern Kashmir almost wiped out, will shift focus to north Kashmir: IGP Kashmir

Srinagar, June 16 (KNS): With the killing of three militants in Shopian on Tuesday, IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar said the militancy in South Kashmir was almost wiped out and focus will be shifted now to North Kashmir.
Addressing a presser today at Police Control room (PCR), IGP Kashmir who was flanked by Army and CRPF officials informed that the active militants in Kashmir are not running short of ammunition.
” We have recovered almost 25 AK 47 weapons this year so far,” he said while replying to a question.

Regarding the Shopian encounter, he said three slain militants affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen.

“It was a clean operation. No collateral damage has taken place. The operation was launched after Srinagar police received inputs about the presence of militants there,” he said.
He added that if any family who claims them would be requested to identify them and the burial as per procedure will be done at Baramulla.
On beiny asked about a audio clip of a youth from Shopian who accused a police officer of forcing him to become militant, he said, ” The youth has a Jamaat background and the allegations leveled by him were investigated and were found baseless.”
He also said that militants involved in the killing of the Pandit Sarpanch have been identified.
” the Hizb was involved in the act. The eye-witnesses have confirmed that two militants identified as Umar and another was involved in his killing while forensic report is awaiting and will be shared accordingly.”
The IGP also said that a woman Sarpanch who was kidnapped by militants in Sopore and captured her video has been evacuated to safer place and provided protection.
” a militant identified as Waleed and a local are involved in the act. All those having threat will be given security cover,” he said.
He also revealed that recent militant-narco Militant module which was busted in Handwara said, “The module has already distributed Rs 3.5 Crores among the militants. Investigation is going and many arrests are expected soon,” he said.
He added that the kingpin among the four have been arrested so far and they have also sold narco material in Amristar worth Rs 5 Crore out of which 3.5 Crore have been distributed among militants.
” Drugs are the main source of funding for militancy, saying that the drugs are being sold in different parts of the country. These drugs reach Kashmir through associates and we have been successful in busting many of such modules.” he said. (KNS)
