The petitioners for the restoration of 4G services have now in a fresh writ petition asked the Supreme Court to go for contempt against the senior officers of Union Government for not making the committee functional which would finally decide about the high speed internet in Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

The petitioner through their lawyer have accused the authorities of being lax and deliberately not making the committee functional even during this pandemic period when doctors and common people need high speed internet to avoid the infection.

The petitioners have Supreme Court to summon the Union Home Secretary and Chief Secretary of UT of Jammu and Kashmir to explain their position with respect to the alleged non-compliance of the court’s directions regarding the making of the special committee.

It said that the Jammu and Kashmir administration had on 27 May 2020, passed an order continuing the restriction on mobile internet speeds to 2G in all districts throughout the UT without any restriction by time or region.

It said the petitioner had sent a representation to the special committee regarding the 27 May 2020 order but they have not yet received any acknowledgement of its receipt which implies that the committee is yet to be functional.

Besides the contempt plea, the petitioner has also filed an application seeking directions to the authorities to notify the constitution of the special committee within three working days.
