Shopian encounter
After the army has indicted its unit of RR for exceeding the laws in the fake encounter, the government has said that police were in the middle of investigation as that had ordered a parallel probe.
On July 18, the Army claimed that it had killed three unidentified militants in Amshipora Shopian.
In a statement issued that evening, Jammu & Kashmir Police, in an apparent move to distance itself from Army’s claims, said that the encounter was executed on inputs of 62 Rashtriya Rifles and they joined the operation later.
On August 10, three families from Rajouri claimed that those killed in the gunfight were their innocent children who had gone to Rajouri to earn their livelihood. Following the claims, both police and Army ordered separate enquiries into the matter.
Later, a police team from Shopian went to Rajouri and collected DNA samples of the families of the youth to match them with tissues of those killed on July 18, this year at Amshipora, Shopian.
The families of the victims are waiting for justice and they have demanded that the culprits should be hanged in Lal Chowk. Government will have to expedite the probe and bring the families out of the present rut.
Police has yet to complete its probe while the army has said that it was a fake encounter and they will proceed ahead under rules against the army personnel who were involved in this encounter.
