DDC elections: Duo held with “petrol bombs” in PAGD candidate’s meeting in Kupwara
Workers of a candidate, who is contesting the District Development Council (DDC) elections from block Wavoora in Lolab, claimed to have “averted a petrol bomb attack” by the rival candidate’s workers during a party meeting of the former on Tuesday afternoon.
The workers in their complaint to police have maintained that two activists of an opponent candidate appeared during a workers meet being addressed by Wasim Majnoon Mir, who is contesting on People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) mandate, at Kawari, Lolab area in the district.
“Upon suspicion the persons were frisked during which two petrol bombs from the duo were recovered,” the workers have maintained.
The duo identified as Faisal Ahmad, son of Ghulam Rasool Mir, a resident of Sever and another as Faisal Ahmad, son of Abdul Gaffar Mir, a resident of Haden, was handed over to police.
Meanwhile, it has been learnt that one of the accused is the son of a local Sarpanch.
The Senior Superintendent of Police, Kupwara, Shriram Ambarkar Dinkar, said that police has recovered two petrol-filled bottles from the duo. “However, nothing can be said with certainty as to whether the duo had come to attack the candidate or not,” he told a local news agency, Global News Service (GNS).
“Both of them have been arrested and due investigations taken up,” the top officer said. The Wavoora block constituency is scheduled to undergo elections on 19 December. (GNS)
