Address concerns
Concerns shown by people of Jammu and Kashmir over the recent decision of administration to impose property tax on the people in the entire union territory must be addressed and understood by the government.
While the LG Manoj Sinha has been talking about the healing touch to the traders and other stakeholders in Jammu and Kashmir, amid such efforts, the order of property tax is not only ill timed but also in contrast to the expectation of the common people.
The reaction of Jammu chamber that if the government will not withdraw this order they will even go for the agitation shows what lies beneath in the society as there is a real economic crisis in the entire Jammu and Kashmir post abrogation of article 370.
Lakhanpur continues to be the red zone and the inter-state buses continue to be off the roads creating fear among pilgrim tourists, as Jammu was having tourism to Katra.
It is a known fact to the administration that Lakhanpur is the major entry point to Jammu & Kashmir and every vehicle entering or going out of J&K has to pay toll tax. The government has also set up the toll posts under the administrative control of deputy excise commissioner to collect tax under different heads.
Jammu chamber has only echoed the sentiments prevailing on the ground and this is the time when the administration should bring relief order for the common people and not impose additional taxes like that of property tax on them.
