The Union Government so far has decided not to subsidize the price of common man’s cooking gas which likes the price of auto fuels petrol and diesel has maintained consistent increase for the past few months.

In this month of February all those households in Jammu and Kashmir who got the gas connection under Ujwala scheme have not been coming forward for the refilling as they do not have so much of financial strength.

Even on Thursday the price of domestic 14.2-kg LPG cylinder was increased by Rs 25, the third increase in the month of February itself, taking its price to Rs 794 a cylinder in Delhi and would be on higher prices in Jammu and Kashmir.

All those rural families who are living below the poverty line are not inclined to go for refilling of these cylinders as they do not have the money to do so.

“I have no money to pay for the refilling of the gas cylinder so we have started back our old wood choola to feed our family. The government should give us refilled cylinders at very low prices if they want us to use these gas connections at our homes” said Ghulam Hassan who lives in the remote village of Wangwas near Nilnag in the central district of Budgam.

Reports from Jammu said that there has been a steep decline in the refilling of the gas cylinders by the families who are living below the poverty line and got these gas connections under ujjwala scheme.
