Three militants killed in Sopore gunfight

Top Lashkar-e-Toiba commander, a foreigner and another militant were killed in an overnight gunfight in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, police said Monday.

A police official told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that the top Lashkar commander identified as Mudasir Pandith has been killed in Sopore operation while as a foreigner who was identified as Asrar alias Abdullah was also killed in the gunfight. “Abdullah was active since 2018 in north Kashmir and his killing big success for police and relief to people of north Kashmir,” the official said.

The identity of third slain militant is being ascertained. Police said that the operation is over in the area. A police official said that they are collaborating the leads and investigations are on whether the slain were involved in the recent attack at Sopore main town in which two civilians and two policeman were killed.

 

Defence Spokesman in Srinagar Lieutenant Colonel Emron Musavi told that the operation was launched based on police inputs. “Due retrain was exercised to avoid collateral damage. Three militants were killed and three AK’s and other war like stores were recovered. Joint operation is over in the area.” He said.
