Winter preparedness
Winters are coming and the government has taken several steps to see the winter preparedness in the different wings of administration. During the winters not only the power woes become visible but the people of Jammu and Kashmir also have the problem of food grains etc. especially in those areas which get cut off from the rest of the valley due to the heavy snowfall.
In order to see the winter preparedness in Srinagar recently, the Deputy Commissioner held a meeting to see how prepared his administration is to look and to redress the problems to be faced by common people.
He recently held a meeting of Sectoral Officers of various Departments to review the stock position of essentials and overall winter preparedness in the district.
He took a review of overall winter preparedness in the district including power and water supply position, availability of ration, fuel, LPG and other essentials, besides measures taken for snow clearance.
While reviewing the status of power supply scenario in the district, the concerned Superintendent Chief Engineer informed that necessary buffer stock of transformers has been maintained at all Divisions and power is supplied to consumers as per schedule.
He instructed the Engineers of KPDCL to keep men and machinery ready for restoration of power supply in case of disruption due to snowfall. He also stressed that fresh curtailment schedules should also be made public at an earliest so that consumers do not face any difficulty.
During the meeting, he set specific timelines for replacement of transformers in all the areas of the district as in the previous winter many villages and localities remained without electricity for days together in the severe days of winters as the transformers could not be replaced on time.
