Kashmir shutdown against Hyderpora killings
A shutdown is being observed on Friday in many parts of Kashmir to protest the Hyderpora killings, official sources said.
The Hurriyat, headed by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, had called for a shutdown on Friday over the killings.
The shops and all other business establishments remained shut in Srinagar as public transport mostly remained off the roads. A large contingent of forces has been deployed in sensitive areas of Srinagar to ensure law and order.
There are reports of shutdown from other major towns of the Valley. There was, however, no report of any violence from any part of the valley.
A police officer said the situation has been peaceful so far.
Kashmir has been on boil after the controversial Monday night Hyderpora encounter that left four persons dead. Police have been saying that two of the slain were militants, one a militant associate and another a businessman. However, the families of three have contested police claims saying “they were innocent civilians and killed in cold blood”.
The Jammu and Kashmir government has ordered a magisterial probe into the encounter and handed over two bodies to the families.
