Village roads
Village roads in Jammu and Kashmir have assumed significance as they are vital for the economic development at the village level. Recently PWD embarked on the mission ‘Road to Every Village’ here.
There is a lot of work going on for the road connectivity and also on the roads in the cities and towns for their blacktopping. In this direction recently the government said that 6625 Kms of road blacktopped, 2480 Kms constructed in 2021-22 under PMGSY in Jammu and Kashmir.
J&K has achieved 4th rank in PMGSY road length and now the new plans are ready for the new financial year so that there is road to every village here.
The Public Works Department of J&K has embarked on a mission to reach out to unconnected habitations with road connectivity, strengthen and expand the intra JK road network, especially in rural & remote areas.
The Public Works (R&B) Department has achieved considerable targets and achievements under various schemes /programmes implemented for Construction, improvement/ upgradation of roads & bridges, for providing connectivity with special focus on rural areas viz. Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY), Bridge Programme, Central Road & Infrastructure fund (CRIF), NABARD, Road Sector, Cities & Towns (Macadamization), Languishing Projects, Pothole Free Road Programme, NHAI/NHIDCL/BRO, and other departmental works.
Under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), 2480 kms of road length was completed in 2021-22 besides 125 bridges are under construction to provide connectivity to far-flung areas.
