Government of Jammu and Kashmir along with concerned agencies is working to make Srinagar-Jammu highway hassle free for the commuters.
Recently fruit laden trucks from Kashmir valley could not reach Jammu due to the disruption of the highway.
The government is also working to make the highway four lanes wide so that there are no traffic jams in future.
The authorities have already started the repair work at all the critical stretch of the highway to avoid accidents.
Briefing the Transport Secretary on issues related to NH-44 traffic and ongoing four-laning works, the Deputy Commissioner handed out an assurance that all decisions taken in the meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary shall be implemented to ensure smooth movement of vehicles.
The Transport Secretary directed the Deputy Commissioner to ensure NHAI carries out all urgent repairs on critical stretches to safeguard the lives of the passengers. He also called for effective synergy between civil, police and traffic police to regulate smooth vehicular movement including fruit trucks and those carrying perishable items.
Taking strong note of unwarranted delay in the completion of this project for so many years, Advisor directed the officers to take personal interest in completing this project as it has vital importance in terms of dealing with maternal health care.
