There is a huge financial depression in our society and it is showing its impact on the prospect of marriages for boys and girls.

In Srinagar city there is a huge number of boys and girls who have crossed the marriageable age limits as they could not get the required finances to solvanize their marriages.

The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has a huge task ahead to facilitate such marriage especially of the girls as it is imperative for the growth of society.

Recently the Jammu and Kashmir government has enhanced State Marriage Assistance Scheme (SMAS) for poor girls from Rs 50,000 to 75,000 for the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) ration card holder families.

According to an order, assistance for Priority Household (PHH) ration card holders remains unchanged at Rs 50,000. New scheme will be effective from April 1, 2025.

The order also states that the financial aid will be directly transferred to the beneficiary’s bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) before the marriage.
