The National Conference (NC) has dismissed concerns over the validity of legislative assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir’s Union Territory (UT) status, calling such claims “confusing and baseless.” NC leader and MLA Pampore, Justice (Retd.) Hasnain Masoodi, stated that the government’s position on restoring statehood has been clear, both in Parliament and the Supreme Court.

The NC leader emphasized that there is no legal indication requiring fresh elections upon restoration of statehood. He questioned the origins of the current narrative, suggesting it’s designed to confuse or impede the process. Masoodi pointed out that the Central government’s stance on restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood has been consistent, with no mention of restrictions or additional requirements.

The NC’s response comes amid ongoing discussions about Jammu and Kashmir’s political future, with the party asserting that the current narrative around election validity is unfounded and lacks legal basis. The party’s stance underscores its confidence in the government’s commitment to restoring statehood and the legitimacy of the electoral process in the UT.

By refuting these claims, the NC aims to reassure the people of Jammu and Kashmir about the stability and continuity of the region’s political process. The party’s position highlights the importance of maintaining clarity and consistency in the government’s approach to restoring statehood and ensuring the rights of the people are protected.
