Recently the cabinet subcommittee of J&K government has submitted its report about the complaints and way outs to give some space to the open merit category here.

The students of Jammu and Kashmir have been demanding more space for open merit as there are over 70% of reservations in colleges, universities and jobs.

Recently many open merit category students have asked SKUAST-K to convert those vacant reserved seats for open merit students which have not been filled so far. This demand has brought in focus the growing frustration among the meritorious students especially in Kashmir valley as the categorization has left very little space for them to get selected.

The aspirants believe that filling these seats through open merit will not only benefit the students but also ensure that the university’s resources are utilized effectively. With many students eagerly awaiting admission, the conversion of vacant seats can provide a chance to those who have worked hard to secure a spot in the prestigious course.

This development highlights the need for universities to be flexible and responsive to the needs of students, particularly in cases where seats remain vacant due to unforeseen circumstances. By considering the conversion of vacant category seats to open merit seats, SKUAST-K can demonstrate its commitment to providing opportunities to deserving students and promoting academic excellence.
