Ladakh elections
Amid standoff between PLA and Indian forces in the eastern Ladakh, people of Leh and adjacent areas have already started the process of going for votes in the coming LAHDC elections.
The people of the region recently made a joint platform asking the centre either to give them tribal powers under sixth schedule or give them autonomy under article 371 as most of them feel that they have been without any powers now after the central government downgraded them to a separate union territory without legislature.
The elections are going to happen as the joint platform leaders finally met Union Home Minister Amit Shah who assured them that their special status and distinct identity would be preserved at all costs and they would be given all the powers back for governance.
After these assurances people of Ladakh have decided to participate in the LAHDC elections and BJP is hopeful that it will get more seats in these elections after they had assured locals that their powers would enhance and there would complete safeguards regarding their lands, jobs and identity.
The fears of people in Ladakh were enhanced after some newspaper reports from New Delhi that some big business houses are going to purchase land and make huge tourism townships in Leh and adjacent areas.
