Challenges ahead
People’s alliance headed by Farooq Abdullah has to face a lot of challenges not only from the BJP cadre but also from different investigating agencies as many political leaders of this alliance have cases pending against them with different investigating agencies.
These leaders have fears that they would be arrested either under PSA or they can be arrested in pending cases like the ED case or JKCA and recruitment case with ACB about the J&K Bank against Mehbooba Mufti.
According to them even Sajad Gani Lone may face a case or arrest in the future as the Central government is not happy with the unity of the Kashmiri leadership. While most leaders are tight-lipped about the contours of the protests, recent media reports suggest that these could be Shaheen Bagh type protests if the political parties agree to it.
The discussions on such protests are going on within the political alliance while many leaders feel that they will have to make a court arrest programme in order to show to the people of Jammu and Kashmir that they are ready to go back to jail and not bother the people to come on the streets.
In this direction Mehbooba Mufti had already told in her first press conference that the time has come when Kashmiri leadership will have to give sacrifices for the cause of restoration of dignity and honor. She said that she is ready to give her blood for the cause of restoration of article 370 and equated the BJP leadership with robbers and dacoits for disempowering the people of Jammu and Kashmir by the decisions taken on August 5, 2019.
