Tourism on decline
Since the abrogation of article 370, on August 5, 2019, there has been virtually no tourism in Jammu and Kashmir. Tourism has been on decline not only in Kashmir valley but the impact is visible even in Jammu region.
The clampdown of the government post abrogation of article 370 along with ban on internet resulted in no footfall in Kashmir valley. Despite revocation of the ban on the arrival of the tourists in October 2019 by the government, there is no improvement in the tourism sector and the people connected with this trade continue to suffer even in this month of February 2020.
With spring only few weeks away, there are no visible bookings of tourists to enjoy spring season in Kashmir valley. In the past several years’ health of tourism sector has been very week in Kashmir and thousands of families connected with this trade are reeling under economic depression. There is no way out for them and the government has also ignored their problems including their bank loans.
Due to very low tourism most of the people connected with tourist trade have not been able to pay back their bank loans and the financial institutions have given them no relief as the government refused to intervene so far.
They are badly in need of government intervention in the form of compensation package otherwise most of those families connected with this trade have reached to their brink.
If the government will not intervene and save from the debt trap of financial institution it would be too late as it will be one of the biggest crises points in Kashmir. CK NEWS DESK
