Srinagar gets a fractured verdict
All the 14 seats for Srinagar district have been announced by the district authorities but the results are more inclined towards independent. PAGD had only managed to get 3 seats; while JK Apni Party had won 3 seats.
The verdict is very surprising, as the PAGD fought these elections together and expected to win the majority of seats here. It is not immediately known what the inclination of independent candidates is after the results.
However, BJP despite its best efforts could only win one seat in the DDC elections of Srinagar. Mehbooba Mufti has earlier claimed that results were being manipulated and our party leaders were arrested and according to her some of them were abducted by police.
She has claimed that official machinery was used by the central government in these elections even during the campaigning to help a particular party.
The verdict of Srinagar is very surprising as most of such parties have always voted for the PAGD parties. This is an initial report and there cannot be much analysis on the real movers and shakers of independent candidates who have won these elections.
Srinagar district has always been a fort of National Conference in the both assembly and parliament elections and even PDP was having a good standing on the ground in many pockets of Srinagar district which went for DDC polls.
