Barricades at Nigeen irk University staffers and students
Srinagar: Kashmir University bound staffers and student Thursday said that barricades created by police near Nigeen Police Station are giving them tough time while everyday their precious time gets wasted due to ‘unnecessary’ frisking and search of the vehicles.
The employees said that erection of barricades on either side of the road outside police station Nigeen is more ‘nuisance’ than an asset. “Vehicles coming from both sides are being stopped as a result commuters stuck in traffic jams. This check-point has become a source of traffic jams. These days we never reach at Varsity in time,” said employees of Kashmir University to Kashmir News Trust.
Majority of the vehicles that ply on Saida Kadal-Nigeen road here in Kashmir capital Srinagar during morning hours are bound for Kashmir University. The checking and stopping of vehicles are irking the Varsity staffers and students. “We are not against checking, but what we face is agonizing. Two to three cops search a vehicle for at least five minutes and during that period, more vehicles emerge from behind. This results into massive traffic jam and it happens on daily basis,” they said.
“Staffers and student community are the worst sufferers.”
When contacted, a police official said that they randomly check vehicles and never put people into trouble. “We are for the safety of people and never intend to make them suffer,” he said. (KNT)
