Positive development
Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing a lot of positive developments on the political front as Prime Minister Modi has invited all the mainstream political parties to New Delhi for an all party meeting to be held on June 24. Soon after the invitation, there were a lot of consultations being held in Srinagar and Jammu by political parties to put forth their point of view.
Jammu and Kashmir’s Gupkar Alliance, led by MP of Srinagar Farooq Abdullah, said they will attend an all-party meeting this Thursday with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, signaling a new change in the thinking of this platform about the future.
Last week, PM Modi called the all-party meeting amid reports that the Centre may discuss restoration of statehood and other important issues concerning the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
It is a big development for the mainstream politics in Jammu and Kashmir as most of these political parties could not carry on their activities post abrogation of article 370.
Most of the political heads of these organizations including the former chief ministers were detained by the government before the August 5, 2019, decision was announced in the parliament.
Though the government released the politicians and former chief ministers in a phased manner, the real political activities could not be started as no elections were held in Jammu and Kashmir since the coalition government of PDP-BJP fell due to the pulling of the support by BJP in June 2018.
