Further ease
Jammu and Kashmir administration has given further ease in the use of internet and social media as the authorities have lifted the ban on the access to the social media but with low speed. According to the authorities access to the social media has been granted to the people but with only 2G speed.
Government has said that they will take another review meeting on March 17, 2020, to take a call whether to continue restrictions on the speed of internet or allow people to use 4G speed.
Although people have welcomed the further ease to use mobiles and internet after seven months, but the low speed has added only to the frustrations and anger of youth especially of student community who have been at the receiving end of the situation.
“While the post paid sim card holders shall continue to be provided access to the internet, these services shall not be made available on pre-paid sim cards unless verified as per the norms applicable for post-paid connections,” the latest government order said.
As regards fixed line connectivity, the order says that internet connectivity shall continue to be made available with Mac-binding. Police chiefs in both Jammu and Kashmir have been told by the government to implement the latest orders and have been told to keep a close watch on the situation. Government said that regular assessment of impact of the directions for regulation of the telecom services on the overall security situation and maintenance of public order and-taking note of the position brought out in the reports of the law enforcement agencies, while keeping in view the aspects of reasonability of restrictions with regard to the principle of proportionality and consideration of available alternatives. People in Kashmir valley are waiting eagerly for easing of all restrictions on the internet services and want restoration of speed so that they can use this modern method of communication without any restrictions.
