Coronavirus (COVID-19) Live Updates: India recorded 704 cases and 28 deaths — highest single-day spike in the count of both — in the last 24 hours, Ministry of Health bulletin said. Briefing the press on Monday, Lav Agarwal, Joint Secreatry, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, said about 63% of those who died of COVID-19 were of 60 years of age or above while 86% had co-morbidities. He added that 1,495 of the total cases reported in India so far were linked to the Tablighi Jamaat congregation in Delhi’s Nizamuddin.

Addressing the BJP workers on party’s 40th foundation day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said “unprecedented” maturity was shown by Indians during the three-weeks nationwide lockdown that ends on April 14. Calling India’s efforts ‘exemplary’, the prime minister made five appeals to the workers and asked them to do their bit to fight the pandemic. The number of confirmed cases in India crosses the 4,000-mark to stand at 4,067. 109 deaths have been reported across the country.

Globally, nearly 70,000 people have died, while over 1.25 million have been tested positive. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who tested positive last month, was admitted to hospital for tests in what the government said was a “precautionary step” after he showed persistent symptoms. News of his hospitalisation came only after an hour after Queen Elizabeth delivered a rallying call to the British public saying they would overcome the coronavirus outbreak if they stayed resolute.
