Gunfight starts in Sopore after night long siege
Srinagar: A gunfight broke out between militants and the security forces in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district following night long siege.
Reports reaching here said that a joint team of army’s 22 RR, 179 bn CRPF and SOG cordoned off Gulabad area of Arampora Sopore on Tuesday evening following inputs about the presence of militants in the area.
Following 14-hours long siege, reports said that the gunfight broke out after the security forces approached the spot where the militants were hiding.
Last evening, the forces have also installed lights so as to prevent the escape of militant owing to darkness, they said.
A police officer also confirmed that the contact has been established with the hiding militants.
He said the cordon-and-search operation was launched in the area following specific information about the presence of some militants.
The exchange of fire was on when last reports came in. (GNS)
