Strict norms laid for NGOs in Valley
Under the provisions of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, the administration in the Valley has laid down a list of conditions for the operation of the NGOs that are working in the field to distribute relief in the current crisis.
The District Magistrate Srinagar, Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, who is also the chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), has issued a list instructions for the further regulation of the operations of the NGOs involved in relief efforts in Srinagar.
The further regulation of the operations of the NGOs comes in the wake of the declaration of various areas as containment zones after several positive cases of Covid were reported from these places. There have been 58 positive cases reported from Srinagar so far, which are the highest in any district in the UT.
“The NGOs intending to distribute relief food, medicines, protective gears, masks and ration shall mandatorily furnish a plan to the DDMA for examination and certification of such products by appointed experts. No such item shall be distributed without the approval of the experts in the respective fields,” the written regulations have said. —TNS
