Four arrested in Shopian, truck carrying large quantity of codeine phosphate seized

Srinagar: Four persons were arrested along with a large quantity of codeine-phosphate in Shopian, south Kashmir, on Friday.

A police officer told that a truck bearing registration number — JK01AD-2504, was intercepted by a police naka party following a tip off at Habdipora area on Thursday night.

During searches, thirty-six boxes of codeine-phosphate were recovered, the officer said, adding that four persons including the driver on board were arrested and the truck was seized.

The officer identified the arrested persons as Ilyas Reshi, a resident of Tral, Sajad Mir, a resident of New Colony Largam, Riyaz Shah, a resident of Haripora, Pulwama, and Showkat Khan, a resident of Newa, Pulwama.

“In this connection, a case FIR number 61/20 u/s 8/25 NDPS act was registered in police station Shopain and further investigations taken up,” the officer said. (GNS)
