Kathua reports first positive case

A doctor has tested positive for Coronavirus in Kashmir while three others are under observation for developing Covid-19-like symptoms. So far, seven doctors and a nurse have got infected with the virus.

The 40-year-old doctor, who is posted at Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla, is among the 12 persons who tested positive for the virus today in Jammu and Kashmir. His sample tested positive at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS).

“There are 12 new cases — 11 from Kashmir 1 from Jammu division (Kathua). Ten patients have recovered. The total number of cases now is 380. Jammu Division has 56 patients and Kashmir Division 324,” said government spokesperson Rohit Kansal.

A health official confirmed that among the 12 positive cases was a doctor from Kanispora in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. “We have first doctor who tested positive for Coronavirus in Kashmir today. His sample was collected on April 19,” he said.

Panic gripped north Kashmir particularly among the medical professionals working at the GMC, Baramulla.“Even the doctor was shocked after hearing the news. He was on duty and was immediately isolated along with the ambulance driver who ferried him from home,” said a health official.
