Pulwama gunfight ends, cop among several injured in clashes
Srinagar: Two militants were killed in a gunfight at Dangerpora area of Pulwama, south Kashmir, on Saturday. Several civilians also received minor injuries during clashes, including a police constable.
A senior police officer told that the bodies of the militants were recovered from under the debris of the houses during the search operation. Besides the bodies, some arms and ammunition and other incriminating material have been recovered, he said.
“In this connection, a case under relevant sections of law was registered and further investigations were taken up,” he said. He said that the identity and the group affiliation of the killed militants are being ascertained.
The officer said that the searches are going on at the ginfight site as police suspect the presence of one more body.
The officer said that the gunfight broke out soon after the joint team of army’s 55 RR, SOG and CRPF 182 bn, 183 bn launched a cordon-and-search operation in the village today wee hours following inputs about the presence of the militants.
Following the gunfight, the authorities have suspended the only 2G internet service in the southern district. (GNS)
