Construction along LAC to be expedited
Amid India-China standoff in the eastern Ladakh, India has decided to expedite the development activities and construction work at strategic locations along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China.
In this context, a special train with over 1,600 labourers from Jharkhand reached the Udhampur railway station in the wee hours of Monday. The labourers would join the construction work being carried out by the Border Road Organisation (BRO) in Ladakh.
“Over 1,600 workers from Jharkhand reached the Udhampur railway station in a special train at around 3.15 am. They were screened for coronavirus before being allowed to board the waiting buses for Ladakh,” highly placed sources told The Tribune.
The sources said the labourers would work on various construction projects, including mega road projects, being undertaken along the LAC in Ladakh, particularly the strategically important eastern areas of the region.
“The BRO has been facing a major challenge in carrying out normal construction activity in Ladakh due to departure of the workforce in view of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic,” the sources said.
