Detention of Mehbooba Mufti under PSA extended by 3 more months
Srinagar, July 31, KNT: At a day, when authorities freed Chairman Jammu Kashmir Peoples Conference Sajad Lone, it extended the detention period of former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti by 3 more months under contentious Public Safety Act.
Principal Secretary Home, Shaleen Kabra in this regard has issued a formal order, a copy of which lies with KNT that talks about the extension in the detention period of Mehbooba Mufti.
Mehbooba Mufti was initially detained on August 5 last year when the Government of India abrogated special status of the erstwhile state and bifurcated it into two union territories-Ladakh, and Jammu and Kashmir.
Having spent over eight months in detention at two government facilities that were designated as sub-jails, Mehbooba Mufti was shifted to her home on April 7 this year.
She heads the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which was in power in Jammu and Kashmir in alliance with the BJP till June 2018.
Initially, she was taken into preventive custody. Later on February 5 this year, she was slapped with the PSA along with Omar Abdullah, who was released in March. Farooq Abdullah also been released.
Earlier, Mufti was lodged a government guesthouse in Chashma Shahi and a bunglow on Maulana Azad Road near Lal Chowk. (KNT)
