Quran burning incident sparks protest in Srinagar
After the holy book Quran was burnt in Sweden, the incident sparked a protest in the summer capital Srinagar following Friday prayers.
Protesters led by Syed Abid Rizvi, a cleric from an Abi Guzar Masjid, assembled in the city’s Press Enclave and raised slogans against Danish Rasmus Paludan, who had set a copy of holy Quran on fire outside the Turkish Embassy in Stockholm.
One of the protesters said: “We condemn Sweden’s state-supported Islamophobia. Our Prophet (PBUH) and the holy Quran are our honour and no Muslim can tolerate such fanaticism.”
Another protester said that the act of burning the holy Quran should not be considered an act protected by the right of free expression. (Inputs from KNT)
