Police crack Srinagar attack incident, arrest accused
Police today said that a local militant behind the killing the two Punjab residents in old Srinagar city has been arrested.
On 7 February this month, a militant opened fire upon two persons at ShallaKadal, Shaheed Gunj area of Srinagar. In this incident, one Amritpal Singh son of Sarmukh Singh of Chamyari Punjab succumbed to his injuries on the spot. Another person namely Rohit Masi son of ParinMasi also a resident of Chamyari, Amritsar was evacuated to SMHS Hospital and then to SKIMS Soura Srinagar where a succumbed the next day.
Amritpal & and Rohit were coming back to Srinagar from Amritsar and were on their way to their rented accommodation.
While addressing a press conference here in Srinagar ADGP Vijay Kumar who was flanked by IGP Kashmir VK Bridi, SSP Srinagar Aishish Kumar and other officers said that after the incident an FIR was registered at Police Station Shaheed Gunj. Srinagar Police detected the case leading to the identification of the accused who carried out the attack on these two individuals from Punjab and the subsequent recovery of the weapon of offence and other incriminating material.
Police said that on the basis of technical and field analysis, it zeroed in upon certain suspects and later on, based upon clinching evidence collected during the investigation, identified and arrested the main accused namely Adil Manzoor Langoo of Zaldagar Srinagar.
Police as per the news agency Kashmir News Trust said that it came to the fore that the accused had conspired with his handler across in Pakistan for the commission of the crime.
“Accused was a highly motivated and radicalized individual. His handler in Pakistan radicalized him on social media and motivated him to carry out the militant attack,” police said adding that the handler provided him the weapon after which he motivated him to carry out the attack.
“In furtherance of same, the accused identified his targets and tracked them in the lanes of Shalla Kadal on the fateful day and opened fire upon both of them, who consequently, succumbed to their injuries.”
Pertinently, LeT affiliate TRF has claimed responsibility for this attack on their social media channel.
Police said that DIG CKR has constituted a SIT to be headed by SP South for investigation of the case and further investigation is being attended to expeditiously. [KNT]
