Protests in Sopore area over non-availability of drinking water
Srinagar: Residents of Sadipora area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Tuesday staged massive protests against water scarcity in the area.
Reports reaching to Kashmir News Service said the scores of men women and children hit the road and staged a massive protest and blocked the Dangerpora- Sopore road for hours.
The protesting residents said they are without drinking water from last the couple of months and the concerned department is watching as a mute spectator.
They said they are facing the problems of water shortage since a long time and the authorities are not taking any measures to end the hardships of the people.
A resident Abdul Rashid said, “Water crisis has become one of the major issues in this village as despite living in the modern world we do not have access to safe drinking water and clean water for sanitation purpose,”
He also said that they have informed the concerned department several times to provide them water supply in the area, “Every time we were assured but so far no drinking water has been provided to us.”
The residents of the area have appealed deputy commissioner Baramulla for intervene (KNS)
