Former Minister Usman Majid Quits Congress
Srinagar
Former MoS for planning and development in Jammu and Kashmir government and ex-Congress MLA from Bandipora Usman Majid on Sunday resigned from the party.
Usman resigned from Congress and held a rally in Bandipora, first in J&K since the abrogation of Art 370.
He was quoted by Times Of India as having said that senior leaders from his party, PDP and NC will announce the new outfit in a few days. He also said the outfit will demand statehood for J&K and immediate conduct of panchayat polls.
“I have resigned from Congress today and we will announce the formation of a regional outfit in a few days that will include senior leaders like Muzaffar Baig and Altaf Bukhari,” Usman told TOI, moments after holding a convention of Congress workers at his home constituency in Bandipora.
The Congress leader said it was a first political rally that was held in the Valley after the abrogation of Article 370 and the large presence of over 500-600 delegates and party supporters indicated people’s eagerness to start the political process in Kashmir and bring normalcy, reported The Times Of India.
