NIA court grants bail to PDP leader Waheed Para
On Saturday, Waheed Para, a leader of People’s Democratic Party (PDP), was granted bail by the National Investigation Agency Court, The Kashmir Walla has learnt.
The spokesperson of the party, Najmu Saqib, confirmed the development. Para, the president of the PDP’s youth wing, was summoned by the NIA a day after he had filed the nomination for the District Development Council (DDC) from his home constituency in south Kashmir’s Pulwama.
Later, he was questioned and booked for his alleged “close links” with an accused, Irfan Shafi Mir, who was arrested along with Hizbul Mujahideen militant Naveed Babu and suspended Deputy Superintendent of Police Davinder Singh earlier this year.
On 20 December 2020, he was sent to a 30-day judicial remand by a special judge of the NIA. after he was arrested last month and since questioned by the agency in a militancy related case.
On 30 December 2020, a team of Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK), a wing of Jammu and Kashmir police, carried out a raid at his home in south Kashmir.
Para had won the DDC polls with a significant margin. However, he wasn’t allowed to take the oath even via online mode.
