Weatherman has forecast, drop in temperatures and clouds to hover in Kashmir valley from Saturday afternoon. The forecast in Kashmir valley is not for a shining spell but about the heavy snowfall especially in the upper reaches.
The predictions are grim even for the highway between Srinagar and Jammu as the heavy rains could result in land and mudslides and the authorities are likely to take a call on this issue about the bad weather and not allow the vehicles to be stranded on the highway.
Previously during the rains and snow, hundreds of vehicles including truck loads of essential items were stranded on Srinagar-Jammu highway for days together when the authorities did not pay any attention to the weatherman’s prediction about the heavy snow and rains.
The MET department said that Srinagar recorded a low of 3.8°C against 4.2°C on the previous night. The temperature was 2.0°C above normal for this time of the year in this summer capital, the official said.
Gulmarg, which is still snow bound due to the previous snowfalls, recorded a minimum temperature of minus 3.0°C against minus 2.4°C on the previous night. “There is the possibility of light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning over plains and light to moderate snow over higher reaches during late night of 6th March and 7th March and thereafter decrease in intensity and distribution,” the MeT official was quoted by news agencies.
Possibility of heavy snow over isolated places particularly over higher reaches can’t be ruled out during March 7, the MET has predicted in Srinagar.
He said that the probable impacts include disruption of surface transport over higher reaches, possibility of landslides and shooting stones over Jammu-Srinagar Highway, possibility of hailstorm at isolated places over plains of Jammu Division and fall in maximum temperature by 4-8 degree Celsius.
