Srinagar: Two patients with high chances of coronavirus have been reported in Jammu.

Both the patients come in the category of high viral load cases. The patients had left the hospital against medical advice and had to be brought back.

Sources said that the patients have been isolated at Government Medical College Jammu and are under constant monitoring.

The administration of Jammu and Kashmir has further stepped up preparedness plan by issuing directions to close all primary schools in Jammu and Samba districts till March 31st.

The biometric attendance in J&K has also been suspended with immediate effect till March 31st.

Although no positive cases of coronavirus have been reported in Kashmir, health officials said all hospitals should ensure their staff are trained, and well-prepared to deal with the virus.

The government has been issuing advisories to inform people of the precautionary measures and symptoms associated with coronavirus.

Also, additional trained staff has been placed for screenings at the Srinagar Airport and National Highway Jammu and Kashmir, an isolation center was created at Sanat Nagar, and Bemina, so that the suspected cases are directly taken there instead of tertiary care center.

Meanwhile, in view of the coronavirus fear, Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) on Thursday appealed the government to arrange separate OPDs, outpatient entry and waiting area and wards for people suffering from flu like illness.

In a statement, President DAK Dr Suhail Naik said the doctor’s body is satisfied over concrete measures taken by the government to prevent the entry of coronavirus into Jammu and Kashmir asking people to stay calm and not panic.

“The health department, doctors and paramedics are prepared to immediately activate the highest level of emergency response mechanisms for early containment of a COVID-19 outbreak,” he said.

He said in light of knowledge gained from Wuhan in China on the effectiveness of non-pharmaceutical measures against COVID-19, like rapid detection, large scale case isolation and quarantine of contacts, the spread of virus can be contained.

DAK appealed people to begin now to enforce the rigorous application of infection prevention and control measures at homes, offices and schools.
