Heritage gardens
The government of Jammu and Kashmir in the recent past has taken a number of measures to preserve the rich heritage and culture. In this direction J&K Government recently inked MoU with JSW Foundation for restoration & conservation of Shalimar & Nishat Gardens on the rim of Dal Lake.
These two Mughal gardens are the main tourist attractions from Srinagar city and Shalimar garden has a rich heritage value as recently the government was able to preserve one of the ancient hamaams of Mughal times in this garden.
Government is making continuous efforts to restore the ancient glory of UT’s heritage places for inclusion in World Heritage sites and such efforts will continue for the future.
Preservation of ecology, cultural heritage, along with industrial growth – key components of sustainable development, and there are clear cut instructions to the different wings of the administration not to overlap on these areas while they go for the development.
The Government is giving its attention on integrating cultural heritage promotion in Jammu and Kashmir’s development plan to connect people worldwide with its glorious history. There are many other options which can be developed as the circuits of tourism as we also have rich ancient Buddhist heritage.
