BoG meeting to elect PCB chairman on Sept 13
LAHORE: Election commissioner of the Pakistan Cricket Board retired Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed on Friday called a special meeting of the Board of Governors on Sept 13 here to elect the 36th PCB chairman, most likely to be Ramiz Raja.
The election commissioner made the decision in his first meeting at the Gaddafi Stadium during which he also directed that notices of the special meeting be issued to the BoG members. The notices were duly issued.
Earlier on Friday morning, PCB patron-in-chief Prime Minister Imran Khan had nominated Asad Ali Khan and Ramiz on the BoG for a three-year term while exercising his powers under clause 12(1) of the PCB Constitution.
The other five members on the 10-member BoG include Aasim Wajid Jawad, Alia Zafar, Arif Saeed and Javed Kurieshi (all independent members) and Wasim Khan (PCB chief executive).
Three remaining posts on the BoG, all of elected representatives of the provincial cricket associations, are still lying vacant because of the newly-formed domestic structure of the PCB.
Our Sports Reporter from Islamabad adds: Following the approval of the prime minister, the Ministry for Inter-Provincial Coordination notified the nomination of Ramiz and Asad.
While broadcaster Ramiz replaced outgoing PCB chairman Ehsan Mani as BoG member, Asad retained his position for second term.
“The Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in capacity of patron of the Pakistan Cricket Board has been pleased to nominate the following two members of BOG, PCB with immediate effect: 1 Asad Ali Khan (second term) 2. Ramiz Raja,” read the notification issued by IPC. It said that term of these members will be three years.
Ramiz’s appointment on the BoG clears the way for him to become the next PCB chairman, with the prime minister’s nominee traditionally never facing any resistance towards becoming the country’s cricket chief.
