Forest Deptt. conducts plantation drive at Media Complex, Sgr
SRINAGAR, MARCH 9: Urban Forestry Division of Forest Department Monday organized a plantation drive at the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Media Complex here today.
The drive was part of national initiative for enhancing the green cover across the country.
On the occasion, various saplings of Deodar and Kail were planted by the officials of the Forest department.
The drive was held under the supervision of Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Syed Nazir Abid and other senior officials from the Forest department.
Speaking on the occasion, DFO Syed Nazir Abid informed that under the “Green J&K” program, Forest department, from its given target of one crore saplings, has so far planted 32 lakh saplings of various varieties of trees across J&K.
He said by the end of this month, the department will ensure that 18 lakh more saplings are planted to take the total number to 50 lakhs.
The initiative was started on 8th July 2019 from Zabarwan Hills.
He said such drives should be encouraged as it is these initiatives which will surly help to cope up with problems like climate change and deforestation. Besides, plantation drives are must to boost environmental protection measures, besides ensuring a healthy environment, he added.
