3 drug peddlers booked under PSA, over 70 kg charas recovered in Kashmir

Srinagar, Sep 16 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir police arrested three notorious drug peddlers and booked them under Public Safety Act (PSA) in the frontier district of Kupwara, police said on Thursday.

Acting tough against the drug dealings and to eradicate the menace from the society, Police in Kupwara booked three notorious drug peddlers under PSA, a police spokesman said this evening.

Besides, a drug peddler was arrested in Anantnag and recovered huge quantity of contraband substances, he said.

He said Police in Kupwara in a series of actions have seized huge quantity of contraband substances from the possession of three notorious drug peddlers identified as Javid Ahmad resident of Panzgam Kralpora, Shameem Ahmad resident of Sudhpora Karnah and Jahangir Ahmad resident of Chitterkote Karnah.

Accordingly, cases were registered in respective police stations, he said subsequently, the cases were duly processed and after obtaining sanctions from the concerned authorities, the arrested drug peddlers were detained under Public Safety Act and shifted to Centre Jail Kotbalwal Jammu.

Moreover, acting swiftly on information about hoarding large quatity of contraband substances, a Police team alongwith Executive Magistrate raided some specific locations. During search, police recovered 60 Kgs of Charas powder from the house of Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Mantoo and 10.5 Kgs of Charas from the house of Wazeer Ahmad Lone.  The accused house owner Gh Mohi-ud-din managed to flee from the spot, while as Wazeer Ahmad was arrested.

Accordingly, cases vide FIR Nos. 243/2021and 244/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Bijbehara and investigation have been taken up.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.

Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace, he said.
