Road Sector Projects
The government of India is very keen that the roads should be developed in the entire Jammu and Kashmir and it is the real game changer for the economic growth especially in the rural areas as the economy is dependent in these areas on the better road connectivity.
Agriculture and Horticulture produce in the hilly areas of Jammu and Kashmir needs prompt and better transportation and it is possible only if there are better roads available for the vehicles to ply.
Recently the Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir held an important meeting with the Union Secretary of Ministry of Road, Transport & Highways and reviewed the implementation of different road projects under the central package.
Both these officers have told the engineering wings to complete the projects within the timeline set by the government and have also asked the different engineering wings for parking bays/toilets on the national highway; urging completion of works within timelines.
The Chief Secretary, and Union Secretary, Ministry of Road, Transport & Highways, recently in a high-level meeting reviewed the implementation of road sector projects in Jammu and Kashmir under Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP).
During the meeting, it was observed that substantial progress has been achieved in the widening of National Highway-44, including in the completion of Chenani-Nashri and Qazigund-Banihal sections on the highway.
