Jam on highway
Srinagar-Jammu highway has remained in news for the landslides and traffic jams in the recent past. In a review meeting for the smooth traffic on this highway Chief Secretary recently asked concerned agencies to submit daily violation reports and weekly action taken reports to the higher offices and establish zero tolerance to traffic violations and plying of overloaded vehicles. They were asked to conduct regular drives to check traffic violations.
He directed the NHAI to double its efforts and complete the pending works by 15th April 2022.
He emphasized that on completion, the tunnel will provide reliable connectivity by-passing the current landslide-prone stretch of NH-44 and as such will provide safe and secure transit to vehicles.
To facilitate smooth traffic flow on the Ramban- Banihal stretch of the National Highway, the traffic police and district administration were directed to properly demarcate single-lane driving zones and ensure lane-driving and traffic discipline among the commuters. He also emphasized the wearing of body cameras by traffic police.
Although the traffic authorities on the highway are trying their best for the smooth going of the vehicles but the landslides and other factors somehow make the traffic jams on this road and it becomes difficult for the trucks carrying the essential items to reach their destinations.
Jammu-Srinagar highway is also under the process of being widened and now there is very little work left to be done especially in the Ramban sector for the traffic to be smooth without any bottlenecks.
