Snowfall: 2 Women Injured, Several Houses Damaged
Two women were injured while several residential houses suffered damage in fresh snowfall, starting Tuesday night, across Kashmir, reports and officials said.
Reports reaching GNS said that a residential house belonging to one Mushtaq Ahmad Sheikh, son of Habibullah Sheikh in Padibal area of Tral besides another house belonging to Manzoor Ahmad Gojree resident of Chatterhama Hazratbal got partially damaged due to snowfall.
A vehicle was also damaged after a branch of Chinar tree fell on it at Kadipora in Anantnag district.
Reports reaching here said a lady sustained injuries after a shed collapsed due to heavy snowfall in Achan village of Litter Tehsil in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
“The lady, namely Arifa Banoo (45) wife of Mohammad Shafi Dar was cooking in a shed when it collapsed”, an official told GNS.
Another lady, namely Jana, wife of Abdul Rehman Dar, resident of Lelhara received injury after a shed collapsed at Kakapora. The injured woman was later rescued by police and taken to PHC Kakapora, where her condition is said to be stable.
A family escaped miraculously after a walnut tree fell on their single-storey residential house at Gulzarpora village of Awantipora Tehsil in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Reports reaching said that during the intervening night of Tuesday-Wednesday, a walnut tree uprooted due to heavy snowfall and partially damaged the house belonging to Farooq Ahmad Sheikh, son of Sonaullah Sheikh of Gulzarpora.
Several shikaras besides a few house boats, as per reports, also sank in several water bodies including Dal Lake and Jhelum River. Officials said that efforts were on to retrieve the sunken structures.
Meanwhile district administration Kulgam, said to have saved six members of a family in Tangmarg Aharbal, after their house got damaged due to heavy snowfall. “The family has been accommodated in a nearby shelter and blankets, essential items provided to them”, an official said. (GNS)
