New power projects
In Jammu and Kashmir the government has started various hydroelectric projects and has also decided to build additional capacity in the existing projects so that there is a huge change in the socio-economic development.
Recently LG Manoj Sinha while highlighting the new power projects said that these projects to address peak season shortage and ensure sustained economic activities.
He said that additional capacity augmentation will bridge the major gap in electricity requirements of Jammu, Udhampur, Reasi, Poonch, Rajouri and adjoining areas.
J&K’s Power Department self-sustaining and reducing power theft which is proving to be the cancer for this sector and has not been addressed earlier in order to get more revenue.
LG appealed to the people to help the administration in controlling theft, reducing wasteful consumption, cutting down losses and reporting the offenders to the authorities.
Govt is planning to invest Rs.12,000 Cr for capacity augmentation, upgrading the transmission and distribution systems to remove all supply constraints, strengthen electrification assets & deliver electricity through underground wires in capital cities of Jammu & Srinagar.
The government will generate 2500 MW additional electricity by 2024 to ensure energy security for people of J&K.
