Hands over compensation cheque of Rs 15.74 Lakh to NoK of a deceased worker
JAMMU, JANUARY 23: Labour Commissioner, Charandeep Singh Tuesday visited several establishments and construction sites in Jammu district including Tawi Riverfront Project and Amar Flour Mills at Gangyal.
During the visit, the Labour Commissioner interacted with the workers and the management to get a firsthand appraisal of the implementation of Labour welfare Laws and social security schemes. He enquired about difficulties, if any, being faced by the workers in availing benefits of the Government welfare schemes meant for them. He also touched upon the subject of wages, hours of work, overtime, leave including sick leave, welfare, health and the basic amenities provided to the workers at the work sites.
The Labour Commissioner emphasized on ensuring compliance to the Labour Laws in letter and spirit and urged the management to ensure appropriate measures for safety and health of the workers.
“Government is committed to enhance the welfare and well-being of workers in both the organised and unorganised sectors and also harmonize the needs of workers and industry” he reiterated and added that a check list of labour welfare provisions under different Labour Laws will be provided to the establishments for convenience.
The workers thanked the Labour Commissioner for interacting and listening to them.
Earlier, the Labour Commissioner handed over a cheque of Rs 15.74 Lakh, under Employees Compensation Act-1923, to the legal heirs of a deceased worker hailing from Deoli, Bamblya District Rajouri who met with a fatal accident during the course of his employment on the Delhi-Katra Expressway.
